Terminal operations

Passenger boarding bridge docking practice.

Docking, retraction and checks for jetway operators, without an aircraft at the gate.

Boarding bridge docked at a gate on the Winnipeg digital twin
Overview

Passenger boarding bridge training

A bridge strike on a door or fuselage grounds the aircraft and starts an investigation. New bridge operators rarely get enough supervised dockings before they work alone, because every one needs an aircraft at the gate. AVOPSIM models the bridge, its console and your aircraft types so operators can dock, retract and repeat without a turnaround in progress. The bridge model, console layout and aircraft types are configured to your gates.

Use cases

What trainees practice.

Each item is a mission type your instructors can assign, repeat and score. All of them run on your own airfield.

Pre-docking checks

Clearance around the aircraft and console checks.

Cab approach

Initial positioning and approach path to the door.

Height, extension, slew

Console control as on the real bridge.

Final alignment

Stop position and door alignment.

Canopy deployment

Against the aircraft type and door.

Retraction and parking

Post-operation checks.

Aircraft variants

Door heights and positions by type.

Weather and night

Rain, wind and darkness at the gate.

How a mission runs

How a mission runs.

  1. 01The instructor selects the gate, the aircraft type and door, and the conditions: day, night, rain or wind.
  2. 02The operator works from a modeled bridge console on a desk station, driving station or a console mock-up in a full cab.
  3. 03Cab position, height, extension and slew are controlled as on the real bridge, with the aircraft door as the target.
  4. 04The mission flags contact, misalignment, missed checks and excessive approach speed, and records the result.
Features and benefits

Features and benefits.

  • Low frequency, high consequence

Train the task that costs the most when it goes wrong.

  • No aircraft required

Dockings happen at the station, not during a turnaround.

  • Measured

Every approach is scored against the same criteria.

  • Your gates

Bridge type and console layout configured per terminal.

  • Console mock-up

Tier 3 stations fit a replica console.

  • Pilot program

Start at one gate and expand.
